Adobe Photoshop
Course Description:
This basic introductory course is designed to introduce you to the Photoshop environment and some of the most essential tools. The course integrates National Educational Technology Standards with Adobe Photohop application. Students are expected to become proficient and independent users of Photoshop. Topics covered include a general overview of the application, managing files, and becoming familiar with the basic tools and techniques of Photoshop. Students may use a digital camera in the course.
Learning Outcomes aligned with the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks:
1. 1.10 Be able to use electronic technology for reference and for creating original work.
2. Be able to demonstrate a mastery of tools and techniques in one medium
3. Be able to create artwork that demonstrates a purposeful use of the elements and principles of design to convey meaning and emotion.
4. Be able to create artwork that demonstrates facility in selective use of elements and principles of design to establish a personal style.
5. Be able to create 2D artwork that explores the abstraction of ideas and representations.
6. Be able to create 2D images that are original, convey a distinct point of view, and communicate ideas.
7. Be able to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of a particular technology to achieve an artistic effect.

Instructional Methods:
This course is taught using a variety of instructional methods including lecture, class discussions/critique, demonstrations, project creation.

2D Design – Contrast, Pattern, Repetition, Balance, Emphasis, Variation, Color
Art History – Impressionists, Paul Klee, Pop Art, Surrealism
Self Portrait – Self-Portrait Photomontage, Caricature Self-Portraits, Self-Portrait in Retro Comic Book Style
Landscape –
Assessment:
Students are assessed based on their understanding of media, processes and concepts. Students will apply these understandings toward the production of their own, original art. Students will also be assessed based on their knowledge and vocabulary as it relates to a class presentation.
Grading:
Projects are graded as 60% of their grade, 40% will be comprised of tests, quizzes and homework, as well as their level of participation within the class.
Late Work:
Late work will receive a reduced grade.
